Abstract:This study compares discovery learning and direct instruction in terms of routine and nonroutine problem-solving level. Discovery learning was defined in the study as a method ofcomprehending a rule rather than memorizing it. This study was designed as pretestposttest comparison group study and a quasi-experimental study. The participantsconsisted of 51 eighth-grade students selected using the convenience sampling technique.The routine and non-routine problems were implemented in each group for 8 lesson hours.A different teaching method was performed in the experimental group; however, thecontent and the problems used in the lessons were similar. The results indicated asignificant difference between the two teaching perspectives in terms of non-routineproblems. However, no significant difference was found between the two teachingperspectives in terms of routine problems.
Öz:Bu araştırmada matematik derslerinde kullanılan düz anlatım ile buluş yoluyla öğrenme yöntemleri, rutin olan ve olmayan problem çözme puanları açısından karşılaştırılmıştır. Araştırmada buluş yoluyla öğrenme yönteminin sınıfta kural ezberletmek yerine, kuralın anlamının kavratıldığı bir yöntem olarak nitelendirilmiştir. Yarı deneysel yöntemin kullanıldığı bu araştırma, öntest-sontest karşılaştırma gruplu deney deseni ile yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın çalışma grubu elverişli örnekleme yöntemine göre belirlenmiştir. Araştırmanın katılımcıları kontrol grubu 23, deney grubu 28 olmak üzere toplam 51 sekizinci sınıf öğrencisinden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmanın deneysel işlemleri sekiz ders saati sürmüş, deney gruplarına farklı öğretim yöntemleri uygulanmış, ancak grupların ders içeriği ve öğretim sürecinde kullanılan problemler açısından benzer olması sağlanmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda iki yöntem arasında rutin problemler açısından anlamlı bir fark yok iken, rutin olmayan problem çözme puanları açısından buluş yoluyla öğrenme yöntemi lehine anlamlı bir fark olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
