dc.description.abstract In this article, the contributions of Dogan Ergun who is one of the leading sociologists in Turkey to the discipline of sociology are analyzed critically. Dogan Ergun who deals with sociology in terms of dialectic approach puts forward his views with "Turkish Individual Theory" and "Turkish National Personality Theory". Ergun theorizes the historical and cultural characteristics of the Turkish society and individual which have been formed, shaped and changed due to social change throughout the history. Ergun compares the liberal-individualistic Western societies with the public-statist Eastern ones and deals with the method problem in sociology and criticizes it consciously. Ergun who doesn't care much about the historical and philosophical basis of sociology in his researches proves the differences between Turkish society-individual and the Western societies and individuals. The main research areas of Dogan Ergun are the essence of the method, the differences of Turkish society from the Westerns, Turkish identity, Turkish personality, the characteristics of the Turkish individual, history-society, society-individual, society-educational issues and social change.
