dc.description.abstract Both alkali-activation concretes, which are becoming more and more common today to reduce carbon emissions, and conventional concretes can be exposed to organic and inorganic acids throughout their service life. Especially in marine building, factory, agricultural, and sewage concrete applications, the acid effect is important. In this study, especially the acid effect on alkali-activation concretes was focused. Deteriorating effect of acids, the characteristics of the acid environments, standards used to determine the acid resistance, and effects of acid on the properties of alkali-activated concretes were investigated. While increasing acid concentration and exposure time to acid increase the losses in the mechanical properties of alkali-activated concretes, methods such as adding additives and decreasing the alkaline solution/binder ratio have been used to reduce these losses. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd All rights reserved.
