Starzl's nearly 3000 publications that contribute to the science of transplantation in every field have been the most important resources for every scientist working in this field. For those of us who work in the liver transplant field, his contributions throughout his life have shaped our career and passion, even for those who have never met, spoken to, or worked with him. If we are able to help patients with liver failure today by offering them the chance of transplantation, it is because of Starzl's passionate work and efforts. Thanks to Starzl's scientific legacy, hundreds of scientists serve humanity and thousands of patients can hold on to life.
