KADINLARIN OMUZLARINDAKİ AĞIR YÜK: “GÜZELLİK”

Abstract

Beden, kültür tarafından üretilen, kullanılan ve denetlenen sosyal bir olgudur. Benliğin ve kimliğin bir parçası olduğu kadar, bireyin toplumsal konumunun da temel belirleyicilerinden biridir. Kadın ve erkeğin toplumsal konumunu ve rollerini belirlemede de önemli bir faktördür. Ancak bedene yüklenen anlamda erkek ve kadın arasında bir ayrım söz konusudur. Bu ayrımların başında “güzellik” olgusu gelir. “Güzellik”, hemen her kültürde kadını tanımlamada kullanılan temel ölçütlerden biri olmuştur. Ancak kadını tanımlamada kullanılan güzellik olgusunun anlamı ve önemi zamana ve topluma bağlı olarak da değişmektedir. Örneğin Batı’da modernizmle birlikte fiziksel güzelliğe verilen önemin artması ve güzelliğe ilişkin bir standart yaratılması, kadınlar için güzelliği ulaşılması gereken bir hedef ve aynı zamanda bir problem haline getirmiştir. Güzelliğin kadınlar için mutlak bir buyruk olduğu ve kadın üzerinde baskı yarattığı savından yola çıkan bu çalışma, çalışan kadınların güzellik algısını ve güzel olmanın üzerlerinde yarattığı baskıyı ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma nitel desenli bir alan araştırması olup, veri toplama aracı olarak görüşme tekniğini kullanmıştır.

The body is a social phenomenon produced, used and controlled by culture. The body is part of the self and identity. It is also one of the main determinants of the social position of the individual. The body is also an important factor in determining the social position and roles of men and women. However, there is a distinction between men and women in the sense attributed to the body. In this context, “beauty” for women is one of the main determinants in defining women. Beauty comes first among the basic criteria used to determine the "ideal woman" in every culture. However, the meaning and importance of the phenomenon of beauty used to define women also changes depending on time and society. For example, the increase in the importance given to physical beauty with modernism in the West and the creation of a standard for beauty have made beauty a goal to be achieved and also a problem for women. This study claims that beauty is an absolute commandment for women and creates pressure on women. The study aims to reveal the perception of beauty of working women and the pressure that being beautiful creates on them. The study is a qualitative patterned field study and used the interview technique as a data collection tool.
