dc.description.abstract Background: This study aimed to examine the effect of video training with a head mounted display (HMD) for patients before transplant surgery on patient satisfaction and anxiety. Methods: This was a randomized controlled study using a pretest and posttest design. The sample consisted of 120 patients divided into the experimental group (n = 60) and the control group (n = 60). The data were collected with the Anxiety Specific to Surgery Questionnaire and the Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Care Scale. The patients in the experimental group were educated using virtual reality glasses, and those in the control group were given routine verbal clinical information. Results: After the intervention, the patients in the experimental group had lower anxiety and higher care satisfaction levels than those in the control group. With an increase in their satisfaction with nursing care, the difference between the pretest and posttest mean scores of the experimental group was statistically significant (p < .05). Conclusion: It was determined that the education given to the patients before the surgery through HMD reduced their anxiety levels and increased their level of satisfaction with care. It is recommended that preoperative information be given with HMD. © 2021
