dc.description.abstract THE EFFECTS OF VİTAMİN E AND CAFFEIC ACID PHENETHYL ESTER (CAPE) ON REPERFUSIONINJURY İN THE RAT BRAIN SUMMARY Oxygen-derived free radicals have been implicated in the pathogenesis of cerebral injury after reperfusion. Caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE), an active component of propolis extract, exhibits antioxidant properties. To determine whether CAPE offers any advantage över alpha-tocopherol, we compared their effects on an in vivo model of cerebral reperfusion injury in rats. CAPE at 10 u-mol/kg ör alpha-tocopherol at lOmg/kg was administered intraperitoneally before reperfusion. Acute administration of both CAPE and alpha-tocopherol altered the indices of oxidative stress differently, but CAPE seems to offer a therapeutic advantage över alpha-tocopherol in cerebral reperfusion injury. tr_TR
