Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Tıp fakültesi Hastanesinde 1994-1996 yılları arasında 30 özofagus kanseri olgusu tedavi edildi. 20 olgu erkek, 10 olgu kadındı. Ortalama yaş 43 (28-76) idi. Yutma güçlüğü ve kilo kaybı en sık rastlanan semptomlardı. Endoskopi ve biyopsi tanıda esas teşkil etti. Tümörün en çok yerleştiği yer 1/3 alt bölüm idi (%76.6). Hastaların %56.7’si evre III, %43.3’ü evre II idi. Bir olgu hariç tüm hastalarda cerrahi rezeksiyon yapıldı. Operatif mortalité olmadı. Tüm olgularda postoperatif kemoterapi uygulandı. Sosyoekonomik şartların bozukluğu nedeniyle hastalar radyoterapiye gönder ilemedi. 13 olguda ilk bir yıl içinde metastaz tespit edildi ve bunların 8’i vefat etti. 8 olgu halen r emisyondadır. Ortalama takip süresi 16 (5-23) aydır. Sonuç olarak, özofagus kanserinde ister küratif ister palyatif amaçla olsun en etkili tedavi yöntemi cerrahidir.
Thirty patients with esophagus carcinoma were treated in Medical Faculty Hospital of Yüzüncü Yıl University between 1994 and 1996. Twenty cases were male and 10 cases were female. The median age was 43 (28-76). Dysphagia and weight lose were the most seen symptoms. Endoscopy and biopsy were essential diagnostic procedures. The most common site of tumor was the lower third of the esophagus (76.6%). The stage IIIpatients were 56.7% and stage II patients were 43.3%. Surgical resection was performed all of them except one patient. The mortality did not happen operatively. Postoperative chemotherapy was carried out all of them. We couldn't send the patients for radiotherapy because of the socioeconomic difficulties. In 13 cases, metastases were found in the first year and 8 of them died. Eight patients are still in remission. The mean follow up period is 16 months (5-23). In conclusion, in esophagus carcinoma, the most effective treatment is surgery even if curative or palliative.
