Abstract:
In this study, proficiency levels of effective citizenship and their perceptions of
concerning democracy consciousness of prospective teachers are aimed to define. The
study is a descriptive research designed as a relational survey method. The sample of
the study consists of 177 prospective teachers at Primary Education Department of
Bayburt University Educational Faculty at 2014-2015 spring term of academic year.
The data were obtained from ‘Proficiency of Effective Citizenship Scale’ which is
improved by Sağlam (2011) and ‘Consciousness of Democracy Scale’ which is
improved by Doğanay, Çuhadar and Sarı (2004). Proficiency levels of effective
citizenship of prospective teachers can be considered as a determinant in terms of
democracy consciousness. These properties are expected to have affected the quality
of education in their future life. Consequently, studying on directed getting these
properties for prospective teachers at the level of bachelor degree is very important
in terms of career development and teacher training.
