Modern tıbbın ölümü tasvir etme tarzı ile bunun beraberinde getirdiği tıbbî ve felsefî sorunların ortaya konulması, bu sorunların analiz edilip eleştirilmesi büyük bir önem taşımaktadır. Bu bağlamda genelde doktorların ölüm karşısında nasıl bir tutum takın-dıkları, ona nasıl baktıkları veya nasıl bir ölüm algısına sahip oldukları, dolayısıyla tıpta ölümün neliği merak konusudur. Mevcut tıp, ölümü tamamen tıbbîleştirmiş, sekülerize etmiş, mekanik ve teknik bir nesneye dönüştürmüş, onu tarihsel ve kültürel bağlardan koparmıştır. Böylece kliniklerde ölüm sıradanlaştırılmış, seyreltilmiş, şeyleştirilmiş ve ötekileştirilmiştir. Bu da ister istemez insan onuruyla bağdaşmayan bir ölüm algısına yol açmıştır. Böylece tıp için ölüm bir hadise olmaktan ziyade olgudan ibaret bir gerçekliğe dönüşmüştür. Bu durum, modern tıpta ölüm yerine ölümsüzlüğe kapı aralayan bir para-doksu açığa çıkarmaktadır. Bu paradoks da ölümün ve ölüm bilincinin yitirilmesi, yok edilmesi ve deforme edilmesi gibi sorunlu bir anlayışı beraberinde getirmektedir. Oysa ölüm, olgusal bir boyuta sahip olmakla birlikte daha çok kendisini bir hadise olarak ele veren ve asıl anlamına bu şekilde erişen bir gerçekliktir.
It is of great importance to put forth the way how modern medicine depicts death, and the medical and philosophical problems that it brings along; in addition, it is of great impor-tance to analyze and criticize these problems. In this context, in general, it is a matter of curiosity how doctors take a stance towards death, how they consider it, or what kind of perception of death they have, thereby the nature of death in the medicine. The current medicine has completely medicalized the death, secularized it, turned it into a mechanical and technical object, detached it from the historical and cultural background. Thus, death in the clinics has been banalized, diluted, reified, and marginalized. This inevitably leads to a perception of death that is incompatible with human dignity. Thus, death for medicine has become a reality nothing more than a phenomenon rather than an event. This situ-ation reveals a paradox that opens the door to immortality rather than death in modern medicine. This paradox brings with it a problematic understanding such as loss of death and consciousness of it, destruction and deformation of it. Whereas, apart from having a factual dimension death is a reality that reveals itself as an event and gains its original meaning in this way.
